Folly Hill started as an old 1837 farmhouse needing to be rebuilt. Determination and dreams kept us going since 1998 when Sherry ordered grape vines in the middle of rebuilding the house. Sixteen hour days became the norm and the thoughts of having some of the best wines we could make for our friends was like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. In 2002 we produced our first Chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon was soon to follow. Our project led us down a path that has been pure enjoyment and pleasure and we are now able to share it with you.
We moved the old tasting room from the cottage we had restored to our new barrel room located under part of the old barn. The room above is used for events of all kinds from weddings to corporate meetings and private wine parties.
This has given us the chance to convert the old tasting room into one of our first B&B units. It is located right next to the vineyard with its own view from a huge window in the sitting room of the unit. It has its own patio surrounded by a stone wall and offers solitude in which to drink your bottle of complimentary wine presented upon your check-in.
The loft is our second unit completed. The early deed shows that this was at one time a smoke house and at some point was moved against the main house to enlarge the living area. The exposed beams feature many of the nails and hangars used in the process. Every effort was made to keep the details that have been part of the evolution of the property by our forefathers.
We feel very fortunate to have had an opportunity to take this property, formally owned by Longwood Gardens and transform it into what it is today. We are one mile from the front gates of Longwood and nestled next to their property. The lush soil helps to produce some of the best wines available.
